Pick Up The Pieces: Celebration of Motown and Classic Soul Bend Concert reviews
1st half great.......2nd half re-hash
My family surprised the kids with tickets on the way to the show, all big fans of Pick Up The Pieces: Celebration of Motown and Classic Soul. We can recite his material word-for-word from his DVDs because we like them so much. We thought the first half of the show was pretty funny, which had fresh material. The second half was a re-hash of his classic material from Beyond the Pale and King Baby. The crowd seemed to like it, kind of like a classic rock band playing old favorites. My kids and I sat there reciting the jokes as he was saying them word-for-word (Christmas, Hot Pockets, etc...).
I felt really disappointed because I wanted a whole show of fresh material. C'mon, Jim, you'll have to do better. I didn't pay over $40/ticket to see stuff I can hear by watching DVDs. I felt cheated. You did half a show, like you were going through the paces to get paid. The warm-up guy was a mini-clone of you and your style, and wasn't that good. The crowd seemed to like it, kind of like a classic rock band playing old favorites.
But I might buy a new DVD, I don't think I'd pay to see Jim again unless I knew the entire show was going to be fresh material.
